Last month we blogged about the new data security standard, GDPR, which comes into force on the 25th of May 2018. GDPR is a pretty big deal, however, it seems that public awareness is pretty poor as survey data shows 60% of the working age adult UK population have not even heard of it.
Perhaps in the era of Brexit, the General Election, fake news, billionaire property mogul presidents, nuclear missile threats from totalitarian regimes and all the other stuff competing for our attention, there’s simply too much news for everyone to keep up. It can be all a bit overwhelming.
Anyway, so that Paralogic clients can get up to speed with GDPR, we’re inviting you to an exclusive event that we are hosting, ‘GDPR: A journey towards better data security’, at the Institute of Directors in Pall Mall, London on Thursday, 18th May 2017.
GDPR starts from the premise of protecting Personal Identifiable Information (PII). It goes on to define a framework for ensuring data security for businesses and public bodies. As such it requires considerable work to achieve compliance. In general, the larger the organisation, the more likely it is that GDPR compliance will be a matter of greater complexity.
There is no quick fix to compliance, and firms and public bodies need to get ahead of the curve. There are considerable financial penalties for non-compliance of up to €20m or 4% of group annual global turnover.
Consequently, all in scope of GDPR are advised to start on the journey to compliance in good time. In the words of the ICO, the regulatory body:
Attending the event enables senior managers and IT practitioners to learn how to take control of information security in their firms to meet compliance with GDPR and protect their networks from security breaches.
