Cloud services: What’s stopping you from maximising the benefits your business gets from cloud technology? | Paralogic IT

cloud_computing_in_the_cloudSurvey shows 93% of companies using cloud technology

The results of a survey published last month suggest the cloud is continuing to win converts from the conventional on-premise approach smaller, expanding and mid-sized organisations use to provision business technology services.
The survey of small business IT leaders provides compelling evidence that concerns about cloud computing have become less influential in holding businesses back from enjoying the benefits of the cloud.
The survey by software firm Spiceworks of 343 IT professionals across North America and EMEA (Europe, the Middle East and Africa) reveals that 93 percent of organizations use at least one cloud service. A third of responses from those managing the adoption and deployment of IT systems for small and mid-sized businesses (SMBs) and enterprises said they expect half of their IT services to be cloud-based within the next two to three years.

Security a main factor in the on-premise mindset

Security has often been cited as the chief cause for concern amongst those that steered away from cloud solutions. However, the proliferation of SaaS (Software as a Service) solutions that address a specific need and the value such solutions offer has proved truly compelling for many. High standards of information protection and partnering with Tier 1 data centre service providers has helped establish the security credentials of many cloud applications.
Concern also seems to be relaxing when it comes to more fundamental moves away from on-premise technology. The on-premise mindset is less in evidence for solutions as cloud server and storage infrastructure, and online backup and DR (Disaster Recovery) which places customer and other business data such as IP or commercially sensitive information offsite.
